BauderROCK & BauderGLAS Insulation Adhesive Options
As part of our continuous research and product improvement, we can now sanction the use of PU Insulation Adhesive – Tin for adhering BauderROCK and BauderGLAS insulations.
Why?
Following feedback from our Site Technicians, Approved Contractors and our ongoing system improvement programme, it became clear that the Twin Cartridge Adhesive was not always the preferred option. In addition, there have been ongoing supply shortages relating to the battery-powered applicator gun.
As a result, further testing has been undertaken using BauderROCK and BauderGLAS insulation systems. Following successful testing, Bauder can now confirm that PU Insulation Adhesive – Tin may be used as an alternative to PU Insulation Adhesive – Twin Cartridge, provided the installation guidance below is followed.
BauderROCK & BauderGLAS Insulation Installation Guidance
The number of adhesive beads used for bonding insulation boards to the AVCL and for bonding board-to-board applications remains unchanged and should continue to follow the requirements stated within the Product Data Sheet and Project Specification.
The additional requirement is the introduction of a water overmist to the wet adhesive beads.
"Use a handheld pressure sprayer with a pump-action to achieve a very fine mist of water over the surface of the insulation adhesive. Avoid excessive over-wetting."
The water overmist initiates the curing process of the adhesive within this application.
If excessive over-wetting occurs, the excess moisture should be removed from the AVCL or insulation board using a dry cloth before installing the specified insulation board.
Please leave the adhesive open for 5 minutes before placing the insulation board into the wet adhesive.
Installation Examples
The original Contractor Update included photographic examples showing:
- BauderROCK insulation immediately after application of adhesive beads and prior to overmisting.
- BauderROCK insulation approximately 2 minutes after overmisting, demonstrating the curing process beginning within the adhesive.
- BauderGLAS insulation approximately 5 minutes after overmisting, comparing adhesive with and without water overmist.
- An example of the water overmist being applied onto adhesive beads installed on an AVCL.
What Type of Handheld Pressure Sprayer Can I Use?
A standard handheld pump-action pressure sprayer suitable for producing a fine water mist should be used.
When Does This Change Take Effect?
New specifications will be updated in due course to include the option of using PU Insulation Adhesive – Tin.
Existing Specifications
For historic specifications where PU Insulation Adhesive – Twin Cartridge has been specified, Bauder will not insist on its continued use.
PU Insulation Adhesive – Tin may be used with the overmist process instead.
The only exception is foil-to-foil applications, for example FA Tapered insulation bonded to FA-TE insulation, where the current specified approach should continue to be followed.
Please contact the relevant Area Technical Manager if you have any queries relating to a specific project.
What About the Supply of PU Insulation Adhesive – Twin Cartridge?
The supply of PU Insulation Adhesive – Twin Cartridge is unchanged and the product remains available upon request.
The availability of the applicator gun remains challenging. Bauder is investigating alternative supply routes and the possibility of directing contractors to alternative suppliers rather than carrying stock directly.
Further information will be issued once arrangements have been confirmed.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries regarding the above.
