Introduction of JFRI PREMIUM Inverted Insulation Range

Bauder are pleased to announce, as part of our ongoing commitment to providing up-to-date waterproofing and insulation solutions, the latest addition to our Inverted Insulation range is now available to all Approved Contractors.

Bauder JFRI PREMIUM is an environmentally friendly, high-performance rigid expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation with improved thermal conductivity. It is lightweight, offers high compressive strength and incorporates rebated edges on all four sides to ensure thermal continuity.

The product is CFC and HCFC free, with a Global Warming Potential of less than 5kg CO₂ Eq./kg.

Bauder JFRI PREMIUM is designed for use within inverted (protected membrane) roof constructions and is compatible with:

  • Bauder Hot Melt Systems
  • Bituminous Membrane Systems
  • LiquiTEC Cold Applied Systems

The range replaces our core JFRI Inverted Insulation offering, providing improved thermal performance and enhanced project cost effectiveness.

Intended Use

Bauder JFRI PREMIUM can be used in conjunction with:

  • Bauder JFRI Upstand Board
  • BauderROCK NC 56mm Upstand Board
  • BauderGLAS Upstand Insulation
  • Bauder JFRI WFRL

It is suitable for both hard landscaped and soft landscaped roof applications.

Advantages

  • Cost-effective solution through improved lambda values.
  • Provides specifiers with greater design flexibility across all roof areas.

Why Are We Changing?

Flat roof insulation solutions are continually evolving to meet changing priorities within the construction industry. This affects both warm roof and inverted roof applications.

The market increasingly demands insulation products that deliver high performance, reduced thicknesses and improved fire performance characteristics.

Bauder already offers solutions that address these requirements, however it remains important to continually review competitor products and improve our own range where possible.

Significant changes introduced by a number of competitors within high-performance XPS insulation ranges have directly influenced this product development.

The introduction of the Bauder JFRI PREMIUM range provides the highest performing solution within the Bauder Inverted EPS Insulation portfolio.

So Why Specify JFRI PREMIUM?

JFRI PREMIUM delivers significant thermal performance improvements compared to the existing range, enabling thinner insulation build-ups for the same target U-value.

This gives specifiers increased flexibility when designing modern buildings whilst meeting increasingly demanding performance targets.

Reduced insulation thicknesses also provide a competitive advantage over many standard-grade XPS products.

Is This Range Covered by a BBA or KIWA Certificate?

Bauder JFRI PREMIUM is not BBA certified but is covered by a KIWA Certificate.

A copy of the KIWA Certificate can be found via Acronis Access.

KIWA is a European verification body that certifies construction products and systems. The KIWA BDA Agrément® process is designed to verify product safety and fitness for purpose within the UK construction market, performing a similar role to the BBA.

KIWA certification is recognised by organisations including NHBC and LABC.

Are the Changes Across All Variants?

No.

  • JFRI (200) HP will be replaced by JFRI PREMIUM+.
  • JFRI (300) will be replaced by JFRI PREMIUM (300).
  • JFRI (500) and JFRI (600) remain within the standard range.

What Thicknesses Are Available?

Single-layer boards are available in thicknesses ranging from 50mm to 240mm.

Your Area Technical Manager will be able to advise on both single-layer and multi-layer build-ups to achieve the required U-values.

Can I Obtain U-Value Calculations?

Absolutely. Bauder actively encourages project-specific U-value calculations.

Please contact your Area Technical Manager for project-specific calculations and general guidance.

Compatible Waterproofing Systems

The following Bauder waterproofing systems are suitable for use with Bauder JFRI PREMIUM Inverted Insulation:

  • Bakor Hot Melt
  • BTRS+
  • BTRS
  • Bauderflex
  • LiquiTEC

What Happens If I Have Hard and Soft Landscaping on the Same Roof Area?

KIWA applies different moisture correction factors depending on the form of landscaping used above the insulation.

Hard Landscaped Roofs

Gravel ballast or paving on spacer pads uses a moisture correction factor of 1, provided moisture ingress is controlled and moisture between boards can drain and evaporate.

Soft Landscaped Roofs

Brown roofs and extensive green roofs use a moisture correction factor of 1.04.

The higher figure is used because drying of the insulation is restricted by the green roof layers, reducing moisture evaporation.

Consequently, each PREMIUM variant has a different lambda value depending on whether hard or soft landscaping is used.

Example

Using JFRI PREMIUM+ to achieve a U-value of 0.13:

  • Hard Landscaping: 225mm insulation thickness.
  • Soft Landscaping: 240mm insulation thickness.
  • Standard JFRI (200) HP: 255mm insulation thickness.

This demonstrates significant thickness savings for hard landscaped roofs and smaller, but still beneficial, savings for soft landscaped roofs.

Where a roof contains both hard and soft landscaping and a uniform thickness is preferred, Bauder can carry out a weighted calculation. This service can be arranged through your Area Technical Manager.

Product Data Sheets

Product Data Sheets for the Bauder JFRI PREMIUM Inverted Insulation range are available via the Bauder website or through your Area Technical Manager.

What Happens to the Existing Bauder JFRI Range?

The existing Bauder JFRI range will remain available to support existing specifications, however our intention is to phase it out completely over the following 12 months.

From June 2021 onwards, all new Bauder Inverted Roof specifications will be written using the Bauder PREMIUM Inverted Insulation range.

How Do I Obtain Pricing?

The range is currently priced on application (POA).

Pricing can be obtained through your Area Technical Manager and will normally be issued as a 90-day quotation.

If a longer quotation period is required, please discuss this with your Area Technical Manager when requesting prices.

Lead Times

Lead times remain unchanged compared with the existing range and are typically 7 to 10 working days.

Installation, Handling and Packaging
