Summer Months Advice & Tips
Bauder Cold Applied Liquids
Hot weather conditions can have an effect on the installation of Bauder Cold Applied Liquid Systems. The following guidance is intended to help achieve the best possible application results during warmer weather.
Cold Applied Liquids – Hot Weather
During hot weather conditions, the maximum ambient and/or substrate temperature for the application of Bauder Cold Applied Liquid materials is:
- LiquiTEC Products: 35°C
- LiquiTOP Products: 30°C
Materials should not be stored in direct sunlight or exposed to temperatures above 25°C.
To accurately measure substrate temperatures, Bauder recommends using a non-contact infrared temperature measuring gun, which are widely available from suppliers such as Amazon, Screwfix and Toolstation.
Warmer temperatures will noticeably affect the flow characteristics of liquid-applied products. As temperature increases, viscosity decreases, meaning the material becomes thinner and flows more easily.
This can impact application rates and may result in the material being applied too thinly, leading to insufficient product coverage.
Particular care should be taken when working on darker substrates, which are more susceptible to higher levels of solar gain.
For warm roof applications, reflective membranes such as BauderTEC DBR 06 do not absorb solar heat to the same degree. However, they can reflect heat back into the liquid-applied system, meaning caution is still required.
Application at excessively high temperatures can result in:
- Sticky or tacky surfaces
- Surface anomalies
- Reduced mechanical performance
- Reduced physical properties
If any of these issues occur, work should cease immediately and Bauder Technical Services should be contacted for advice.
Recommended Precautions
- Store products in a cool, well-ventilated covered area between 5°C and 25°C.
- Do not leave products exposed to direct sunlight.
- Only take onto the roof the materials planned for use that day.
- Always check the condition of the product before use.
- Do not use LiquiTOP products when ambient or substrate temperatures exceed 30°C.
- Do not use LiquiTEC products when ambient or substrate temperatures exceed 35°C.
