Bauder Uninsulated Waterproofing Systems to be Used on Combustible (Timber Based) Decks

Important update.

Further to the Contractor Update dated January 2022, and as a result of our ongoing fire testing programme, we can now confirm that the uninsulated BTRS system comprising K5K and KSA DUO directly onto an OSB/3 substrate is now classified BROOF(t4) in accordance with BS EN 13501-5.

This means the system is now approved for use directly onto OSB/3 and plywood decks without the incorporation of a 6mm Magply board.

Other Systems Deemed to be Suitably Fire Resistant

Commission Decision 2000/553/EC identifies the following roof finishes as satisfying the performance characteristic of external fire performance without the need for additional testing:

  • Loose laid gravel with a thickness of at least 50mm or a mass of ≥80kg/m² (minimum aggregate size 4mm, maximum 32mm).
  • Sand/cement screed with a minimum thickness of 30mm.
  • Cast stone or mineral slabs with a minimum thickness of 40mm.

The DCLG document "Fire Performance of Green Roofs and Walls", referenced within the Approved Documents, states that a growing medium with a minimum depth of 80mm and an organic content not exceeding 50% is sufficient to comply with Building Regulation requirements.

Therefore, where a complete layer of any of the above materials is installed over a Bauder roof system, that system may be used without restriction from an external fire performance perspective.

Ongoing Testing Programme

Our fire testing programme continues, and any significant updates will be communicated as further results become available.
