Bauder Blue Roof Installation Process
As the demand for Blue Roofs continues to increase in the UK, the Bauder Blue Roof System has become more mainstream.
To meet increasing demand and support best practice installation, Bauder continues to refine both its Blue Roof system range and the installation process.
The points below are considered best practice and are required on every Blue Roof project.
Installation Requirements
- There should always be a pre-start meeting involving the Main Contractor, Roofing Contractor and Bauder to discuss labour requirements, detailing, sequencing of works and inspection requirements before work commences on site.
- The specification states that all penetrations must be fitted during installation and no later than the underlay stage. Any penetration introduced after completion of the roof will be recorded as a non-conformity and highlighted during the final inspection.
- The Blue Roof installation process must be carried out by experienced and fully approved Bauder operatives. Only fully approved operatives are permitted to install the Blue Roof system.
- Adequate interim inspections of the waterproofing installation must be undertaken to ensure the entire roof area has been signed off before Blue Roof components are installed.
Installation Principles
- Reduce penetrations as much as possible.
- Simply click the RWR cells together.
- Encapsulate the cells with FV 125 fleece.
Key Design Considerations
It is important that all parties understand the key design considerations associated with the installation of Blue Roof systems.
Bauder recommends the following:
- Reduce or remove penetrations during the design phase to minimise the risks associated with intricate detailing.
- Blue roofs can be designed with zero-degree roof falls, provided there are no back falls.
- The design must include provision to address any areas that require levelling to prevent or correct back falls.
- Adequate overflow provisions must be incorporated to allow drainage should flow restrictor outlets become blocked.
- Blue Roof outlets must be clearly identified and easy to access.
- The building owner should be informed of the requirement for a clearly defined inspection and maintenance regime.
Available Blue Roof Systems
- STORMsub – Green/Blue roof system with high ecological value.
- STORMcell – High-capacity, high-load stormwater retention system.
- STORMvoid – Simple, cost-effective Blue Roof solution (high levels of ballast may be required for inverted Blue Roof systems).
Bauder's Blue Roof systems enable cold, warm and inverted Blue Roof constructions to be installed.
